"Sailboat on the Ocean"

Hey, everyone. I know it has been a while. Here is the latest project I did for a client.
The idea was to commemorate a difficult time a couple had gone through where they came out on the other side. So we took the husband's love of Westsail 32 sailboats and a bit of symbolism and came up with this! I have to admit, this was a difficult project, but I got through it with the help of my friend and mentor, Don Stephens (https://www.facebook.com/DonStephensArt/).

Step 1. After prep and priming of the canvas. The layout of the lines is next.

Step 2.  We began painting in the clouds and sky.

Step 3. The base sea colors go down.

Step 4. We lay down more color on the waves to help the flow, and more work on the clouds.

Step 5 & 6. Additional cloud and sky work, and crests at the top of the waves.

Step 7. I lay out the base colors for the sailboat.

Step 8. More color and highlights on the boat.

Step 9.  Final touches including lightning and signing.

Step 10. Messing around the studio with Don!
